What is career coaching?
Career coaching helps you to explore your options and make the right decisions when considering, or faced with change at work.
Most of us experience periods of change during our career – sometimes strategic and straightforward, others forced and unwelcome. In both scenarios, a bfpeople career coach will help you to understand your strengths, options and navigate your personal development.
“I approached John about some coaching a number of years ago as I was at a crossroads in my career.
At the end of one session, in which John asked me a lot of questions and put a number of scenarios to me, I already had more clarity on what I could achieve and I had a lot to think about!
The time I spent with John was invaluable. It made me realise my strengths and that my weaknesses were able to be worked on rather than hold me back.
John never tells you what to do, but the unique style of questioning and ‘what ifs’ were ideally suited to me.“

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.”
Steve Jobs
While many people choose career coaching after losing a job, we also work with individuals who are proactively taking control of their career. Ambitious people want to manage their career through increasing their self-awareness and developing a positive career plan.
You might want to explore making the move from corporate life to self employment, or a start up operation. An objective analysis of your strengths and suitability is an invaluable element of your planning and decision making process.
We have worked with hundreds of people facing career change. Many sponsored by their organisation as part of a package to leave, and others who are taking responsibility for their own career. We work in all industry sectors, both private and public, and with people who are in, or seeking to secure, leadership and management positions.
“In a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks.”
Warren Buffett
How long does it take and how much does it cost?
All bfpeople career coaching programmes are bespoke – you are never tied to a long term commitment. Sometimes you only need one two-hour session to make a breakthrough that works for you. Sometimes it takes a little longer. We will discuss your situation and objectives with you at the outset, agree a plan, a timescale and a cost. Our solutions-focused coaching style means that we don’t spend hours on reflective navel-gazing – we concentrate our efforts on finding solutions rather than problems, and on developing strengths rather than worrying about irrelevant weaknesses.
“It is not as much about who you used to be, as it is about who you choose to be.”
