This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an ambitious engineer looking for a high level of responsibility, autonomy, and potential ownership.
My client is a long established, small, specialist engineering services business. It supplies equipment, products, solutions and services to a wide range of industries including food and drink, chemicals, aerospace, and energy.
I’m looking for someone to join the business as General Manager, working alongside the current business owner. You will have early responsibility for the day to day running of the business. This will involve building relationships with customers and suppliers, managing projects, and commercial decision-making.
The company has significant growth potential. It has a loyal customer base which has not been developed fully. Doing more with existing customers, and developing new ones, will quickly increase revenue and possible expansion.
This is a succession planning appointment. The opportunity exists to become Managing Director and invest in, or acquire, the business in a realistic time-scale. So, this comes with the chance to shape your own destiny.
To be in the frame here, you will be a qualified in a mechanical engineering discipline with a good, all-round technical background. Specific product training and technical support will be provided to build on your existing engineering experience.
You will have a hands-on approach (this is not a desk job) and be prepared to get stuck into finding solutions to customer problems. Your career should include some evidence of commercial decision making, with direct contact with customers and suppliers. This might be in a projects, commercial, operations, or business unit manager role, as long as you can show ability to build relationships, think quickly, make good decisions, and motivate a small team of people.
While this is not a sales role, you will be heavily involved in the development and growth of the business – so a good network and a great reputation will help.
You should be based in, or close enough to, the East Midlands to be in the office two or three days a week. The rest of your time will be spent working at home or on site with customers throughout UK and Ireland.
A package of benefits and incentives will be designed around the successful candidate. But the big picture here is the opportunity to lead, and potentially own, this already successful and profitable, business.
If you’re ambitious and excited by this opportunity – and have the required technical and commercial experience, I’m looking forward to your application.
